At Penser Joch, Spögler and Rausch celebrate

Michael Spögler (ASC Sarntal/Rad) from Sarnen and Thomas Gschnitzer (Polisportiva Vipiteno) from Sterzing fought a thrilling duel in the last two kilometers for the day's victory at the Grand Prix Penser Joch 2018. The duo had passed each other shortly before the finish of Francesco Avanzo and Alessandro Sogne deposed. In the end, Spögler had the better finish by two seconds in the finish sprint, winning the promotion race in 59.32 minutes. It was not only Spögler's first success in the Sarn cycling classic, but also the first victory by a cyclist from the Sarntal since the race was organized by the host ASC Sarntal. In third place was Avanzo, who didn't stay under the magic mark of one hour by a blink of an eye (1:00.00,1).

In the women's race, however, Christina Rausch (RSV Adler Goslar) had an unchallenged start-to-finish victory. The 45-year-old German won in 1:07.31. Andrea Parigger (Polisportiva Vipiteno/1:16.45) took second place, more than nine minutes behind. Evelyn Fissneider from the Bike Club Neumarkt completed the podium (1:20.38).

Carina – Brao Caffè wins the team competition A total of 90 cyclists tackled the Penser Joch Grand Prix. The Moser Bau trophy for the strongest team went to the Carina – Brao Caffè team.

The Penser Joch Grand Prix was the fourth stage of the South Tyrol.Mountain.Cup.
