Preparations for the coming season for the cycling elite have long been in full swing. Small races replace the monotonous training. We are primarily preparing for the big classics and the exciting, week-long tours through Italy, France or Spain, in which new stars will probably be born, some of whom have already shown their talent in the junior level, such as Antonio Tiberi. The 21-year-old Italian from Frosinone lives in San Marino and became world champion in the individual time trial in his age group three years ago. As a professional, the Italian won the queen stage of the Tour of Hungary last year. As a professional cyclist, he also knows that health is an important asset. Allergies, for example, need to be eliminated. They are extremely cumbersome. Your nose runs, you have to sneeze, your eyes are red, itchy and watery. I mean, it's not particularly difficult to imagine that in such cases you shouldn't get on a racing bike. Cat allergies, for example, are particularly stubborn. But be careful: Tiberi has a remedy for it. He made short work of a cat with an air rifle that he spotted from the window of his apartment. It is not known whether he shot her out of caution about possible allergies or out of pleasure and madness. What is clear, however, is that his aim was precise. Too precise. According to his own statements, he just wanted to test the range of his new weapon. The killing would probably never have become public. A stray cat on a mantelpiece, probably one of hundreds that have briefly escaped or have no home at all. There is no big lobby for this. Prominent perpetrator, prominent victim And yet the San Marino police got involved. On the one hand, the perpetrator was prominent and then there were many different aspects that had to be investigated. A murder with base motives. Intentionally. A case perhaps even for the public prosecutor, who doesn't have much to do in San Marino at the moment. It is possible that forensics came and evidence was seized (the rifle, for example, and of course cat hair for DNA). The KTU got work. More details will be available after the autopsy. No cell phone was found, no ID card either. But the San Marino gendarmerie gave a taste of their skills and, after extensive questioning of witnesses in the area surrounding the crime scene, calmly and calmly identified the owner of the victim, who had long been in cat heaven. It's Federico Amati. Well, we don't know him very well and had to do some research first. And he is actually registered for identification purposes. Not on the side of the villains, but because he is a politician. San Marino Tourism Director. After all, the mountainous dwarf state is considered the oldest existing republic in the world and prides itself on its wealth and security. And there's wild shooting going on. It's clear that it's now politics' turn. Now the cyclist Tiberi is very upset because he is not exactly known as a mass murderer. And now this: The police are everywhere with everything that goes with it and the commissioners are investigating consistently. The shot at the cat was just a misguided training session. Tiberi testified that, even though he had no legal assistance, he simply aimed at the animal and unfortunately hit it fatally. Of course, this is a catastrophe for Amati. He sees the tourist development for San Marino, where cats and people have always been able to lead a nice and, above all, safe life, in serious danger, which is why in this particularly serious case - and such is of course the careless use of an air rifle – an example had to be stationed. As befits a politician with an important portfolio, Amati raged and demanded punishment. Now it may have paid off in two ways that Tiberi didn't shoot the cat in Italy, even though San Marino is an enclave surrounded by Italy. The case went to court in San Marino (finally a big task again), which handed the professional cyclist a fine of 4000 euros. It is not stated who will bear the costs of the procedure. But San Marino is debt-free. It would not affect a poor state. Amati raged again. The punishment was far too light for him. He said Tiberi would probably have received a prison sentence of four months in Italy. Unless he's sorely mistaken. Because it is precisely at this time that the big tours take place. Also the “Giro d'Italia”, which Tiberi will contest this year. A sporting judge who knows - and the lawyers would certainly have taken into account - that Tiberi has what it takes to become a great racing driver, might have suspended the sentence and perhaps even ordered community service instead of the fine.
