A Dutch total success at the Giro

On the fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia, after 189 kilometers from Alberobello to Lecce, Casper van Uden was able to celebrate ahead of his two Oranje compatriots Olav Kooij and Maikel Zijlaard.

Meanwhile, former world champion Mads Pedersen's winning streak came to an end. The Dane, who had triumphed twice during the Albanian detour, had to settle for fourth place as a solo competitor. At least Pedersen, who lost his key lead-out rider, Sören Kragh Andersen, to a crash 20 kilometers from the finish, retains the overall pink jersey.

Pedersen just ahead of Roglic

In the overall standings, Pedersen is now seven seconds ahead of Red Bull captain Primoz Roglic, who is considered the favorite for the overall victory. The Slovenian, the 2023 Giro winner, gained another two seconds on his closest rivals in the intermediate sprint.

On Wednesday, the professional cyclists will face slightly more undulating terrain on the fourth stage, covering 151,9 kilometers from Ceglie Messapica to Matera. A second-category climb awaits them just 25 kilometers from the finish.
