Pogacar breaks Fausto Coppi's record

World and European champion Tadej Pogacar has equalled the record of Italian cycling legend Fausto Coppi by winning the Tour of Lombardy.

The exceptional Slovenian rider triumphed at the cycling monument for the fifth time in a row after a 34-kilometer solo ride at the front, thus catching up with Coppi, who had won the traditional race from 1946 to 1949 and again in 1954.

Pogacar won the 119th edition of the Tour of Lombardy after 241 kilometers from Como to Bergamo, finishing nearly two minutes ahead of Belgian double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel. Australian Michael Storer finished third.

"To win five times in a row – this race, this track suits me very well," said Pogacar, adding: "In seven years, I can say that this was my best season. And I can say again: This was my best season."
