Accidental death of ex-wife: Cycling world champion admits guilt

According to consistent media reports, Australian former professional cyclist Rohan Dennis has pleaded guilty to a car accident in which his wife Melissa Hoskins died.

The 34-year-old was charged, among other things, with dangerous driving resulting in death.

Dennis admitted a less serious charge in the Adelaide Magistrates Court, namely that he had created a situation in which someone could be harmed. The other charges were dropped after a deal with the public prosecutor, including with the BBC, ABC and 9News reported.

Dennis yelled at Hoskins

Former cyclist Hoskins died in hospital at the end of December 2023 at the age of 32. She was hit by a vehicle in Adelaide, South Australia, that was allegedly driven by Dennis.

The 2018 and 2019 individual time trial world champion was arrested after the incident but was released on bail shortly afterwards. He then had to appear before the Adelaide Magistrates Court. The verdict against Dennis, who has two children with Hoskins, is expected at a later date.
