Accident at Tour de France: Team car hits spectators

Shocking scenes unfolded on the 14th stage of the Tour de France. A fan was hit by a car on the side of the road and thrown through the air.

Videos on social media show the incident, which, according to the images, allegedly occurred about 30 kilometers from the finish in Luchon-Superbagnéres on the climb up the Col de Peyresourde. The fan was hit and fell to the ground. The spectator's health remained unclear.


The jury of the Tour de France subsequently fined the Ineos team employee 5.000 Swiss francs (approximately €5.360) and issued him a yellow card. In a statement, the Tour organizers stated that the incident involved improper conduct that endangered spectators.

Team apologizes

According to the AP news agency, the Ineos team expressed its regret for the accident and apologized to the fan. The fan was accidentally hit.

On the last of the three Pyrenees stages, the Dutchman Thymen Arensman won ahead of superstars Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard.
