Tour Transalp: Second podium for Kerschbaumer/Stecher

The participants first cycled from Brixen to Gufidaun to reach the Grödnerjoch via Laion and Val Gardena. From there it went down to Corvara and then through the Val Badia to Zwischenwasser, from where the participants had to pedal about four kilometers slightly uphill to Enneberg.

In the Grand Masters ranking, Oswald Kerschbaumer from Wolkenstein and Frowin Stecher from Mals came third. This meant they improved to second overall in the category rankings. The victory went to the Swiss Christoph Stähli and Ralph Sigg. The duo, who were given a five-minute penalty for running a red light on Monday, regained the overall lead.

“Nobody expected such a tough stage,” say Stecher and Kerschbaumer in unison. “On paper it seemed short, but the pace of the peloton was tremendous. Luckily we had good legs again today,” said the second-placed Grand Master riders, who together have to be at least 100 years old.

In the master category, Giordano Casagrande and Luca Bonfante, both from Bolzano, took sixth place. This moved them up to eighth place in the overall standings. Alberto Micheletti from Nalles and his partner Stefano Gavioli from Bolzano finished tenth, but defended sixth place overall. Victory went to the Germans Stefan Oettl and Wolfgang Hofmann for the third time in a row.

In the women's race, Marcellina Dossi and Cinzia Bertoldi from Trentino won their second victory in three days. They lead the category standings with a 5.30 minute lead over Andrea Scharrer and Martina Stoiber from Germany. Third victory in a row for the favorites Lisa Pleyer and Jörg Ludewig in the mixed category, where the best South Tyroleans with Ruth Zemmer and Thomas Oberhollenzer from the Vertical Brixen team came in eighth place.

The best time of the day on Tuesday was achieved by Richard Klein and Rainer Rettner from Germany, who needed 3:00.52 hours to cover the route from Brixen to St. Vigil. Hans Peter Obwaller and his partner Mathias Nothegger remain in the men's lead before the fourth stage with a lead of 2.21 minutes over Klaus Steinkeller and Michael Kastinger (Austria). The Kastellbeller Andreas Tappeiner turned 17 together with his German partner Adrian Fingerlin. “I'm in a very good mood at the moment. The Transalp is a big challenge, now come the tough stages.”

“Queen’s stage” on Wednesday The queen stage is on the program on Wednesday. It leads over 154,73 km and almost 3.500 meters in altitude from St. Vigil to Fiera di Primiero. First we go over the Furkelpass to Olang and to Dobbiaco. From there continue to Cortina and then up to the Passo Giau. The route continues via Alleghe to Agordo and from there uphill again, first to Forcella Aurina and then to Passo Cereda, before the descent to Fiera di Primiero begins.
