Cameron Menzies completely lost his temper on Monday evening.

Bloody outburst at the Darts World Championship: Here's what's behind it

Cameron Menzies went on such a rampage on stage after his elimination from the World Darts Championship that blood was even drawn. It has now come to light that the incident is also connected to a death in the family.

After leaving the world's biggest darts stage with a bleeding hand, Cameron Menzies quickly apologized. "I want to apologize. There is no excuse for this, but I haven't had an easy time lately," Menzies wrote in a statement released via the broadcasting network. Sky Sports has been published.

The 36-year-old Scot completely lost his composure after his elimination from the World Championship in London. Following his narrow 2-3 defeat against Englishman Charlie Manby, Menzies went to his own table and, in the manner of a boxer, powerfully punched the surface three times from below. His water bottle and other items fell off the table.

Family member died

Menzies continued: “My uncle Gary recently passed away. Had I won against Charlie, my second match would have been on the day of his funeral. That has definitely affected me.”

The professional footballer was warned by referee Kirk Bevins after his outburst and sent off the pitch at Alexandra Palace to loud boos from the spectators. Menzies himself seemed to regret the incident shortly afterwards; he left the arena with his arms raised and gestured as he apologized.

Menzies had been annoyed with himself beforehand. At 2-2 in sets and 1-2 in legs, Menzies miscalculated and missed the chance to level the score; seconds later, he was eliminated. The scenes that followed the lost match will undoubtedly feature in many recaps of this World Championship in London.
