The next drama about Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini is one of the best tennis players Italy has ever produced. But the Roman continues to be plagued by bad luck.

A sporting drama involving Matteo Berrettini - again! After the 28-year-old Roman had brilliantly led Italy's Davis Cup team into the final round a week and a half ago, he suffered a bitter setback. Berrettini had to give up early in his second round match of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. The reason for this was once again an abdominal muscle injury.

Berrettini, who is currently ranked 46th in the ATP rankings, won the first set against Arthur Fils, but the Roman had to raise the white flag after that. His abdominal muscles were causing him problems again. The former Wimbledon finalist had already struggled with this type of injury in the past, and now it has become acute again. It is not yet clear how long he will be out.

Physical and mental problems

One thing is clear, however, that bad luck continues to stick with Berrettini's racket. In recent years, the tennis star has had to take time off due to injuries. This affected him so much that a year ago he suffered from psychological problems. "I couldn't get out of bed anymore," said Berrettini.

This year, things have improved for the Italian (he won a total of three tournaments), but this year has not been free of injuries. Tonsillitis and minor injuries slowed him down in the spring, meaning Berrettini missed almost the entire clay court season. Now the Roman is being slowed down again.
