From Lichtenwörth in Lower Austria, Dominic Thiem conquered the tennis world. He became the third Austrian ever to break into the top 10 of the ATP world rankings. Thiem reached number 3 and was considered a future number 1 before long-term injuries derailed his career.
In the fall of 2024, Thiem ended his professional career and devoted himself to other projects. He is now supporting his father, Wolfgang, who runs the Burgenland Tennis Academy in Oberpullendorf. It's always a special occasion for young tennis players when the Grand Slam champion (2020 US Open) joins them on the court. In July, Thiem will also compete in a high-profile exhibition tournament in New York.
Second career in amateur football
Thiem is also particularly fond of football. Thiem was already considered a talent in his youth, before tennis took over. Since the winter, Thiem has been training regularly with his hometown club, SC Lichtenwörth. In the second half of the season, Thiem is a permanent fixture on the first team, which competes in the 2nd Division Steinfeld (8th division), and plays in midfield with the number 13.In 2020, Dominic Thiem won the US Open and was ranked No. 3 in the ATP world. © GETTY IMAGES VIA AFP / PHOTO BY / GETTY IMAGES VIA AFP / PHOTO BY
The tennis star, who has earned over 30 million euros in prize money during his career, hasn't managed to score a goal yet. But in the last match, a derby against Zillingdorf, Thiem set up the opening goal with a corner kick.Edit Profile
