Touching words: The coach comforts Jannik Sinner

In a French Open final that will be remembered for a long time, Jannik Sinner became a tragic hero. Consolation came from his coach, among others, whose words made waves.

Even the day after, it is the number one topic of conversation in the sports world. What Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the French Open on Sunday delivered was not from that star. The two superstars dueled for more than five hours on the red clay of Paris, and the tone afterward was unanimous: "This match didn't deserve a loser." But in the end, there has to be a loser – and on that evening, that was Jannik Sinner.

It was perhaps the bitterest defeat of the Sextner's career, especially since he was leading 2-0 in sets at one point and failed to capitalize on three match points. His coach, Simone Vagnozzi, offered particular consolation during these hours, causing quite a stir with an emotional statement on Instagram.

“You showed the heart and resilience of a number 1.” Simone Vagnozzi

"This hurts, but these are precisely the games that shape you, that define you," wrote the 42-year-old. "Those who see you every day know what lies behind every shot, every sprint, every jump: total dedication. Yesterday (Sunday, ed.) you showed the world not only your tennis, but also the heart and resilience of a No. 1. The whole country is proud of you – and I am even more so."

It's a touching statement, which Vagnozzi aptly concludes: "Being by your side is not only an honor, but a responsibility that I bear with pride. This historic match will only make you stronger. Thank you, Jannik! And congratulations to Carlos Alcaraz and his entire team."

This post garnered more than 50.000 likes and thousands of comments within a few hours. And it probably brought Jannik Sinner's smile back a bit.
