Big news after victory: Sinner announces coach exit

Nobody expected this: Immediately after his second-round victory at the Australian Open, Jannik Sinner announced the departure of his successful coach.

Darren Cahill will be at Sinner's side for the rest of this season, but then it's over. The Australian star coach will quit at the end of the year and leave the world number one's team.

Cahill had only announced in November on the sidelines of the ATP Finals in Turin that he no longer wanted to coach any players after Sinner. But the fact that Cahill's departure has now been announced at the end of the year still comes as a surprise.

Cahill formed the world's best

Darren Cahill is from Adelaide and is 58 years old. He accompanied future legends and number one players such as Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt and Simona Halep on their way to the top of tennis before taking Jannik Sinner under his wing in the summer of 2022. As a so-called super coach, he was not in Sinner's coaching box at every tournament alongside coach Simone Vagnozzi, but with his know-how he shaped the Pustertalian talent of the century into a complete world-class player, the currently undisputed number one in the ATP rankings.
"He said 2025 will be his last year." Jannik Sinner

On Thursday, Sinner announced in a EurosportInterview: “He himself said that 2025 will be his last year.” Immediately before, the defending champion had a four-set victory against Tristan Schoolkate and thus secured his ticket to the third round. This will be the last Grand Slam tournament Down Under that Sinner will play under Cahill's watchful eye.
