Jannik Sinner: The countdown to Rome begins now

In less than a month, Jannik Sinner will return to the big tennis stage. While he had to keep fit at private facilities until this Sunday, the world number one can now also train at tennis facilities owned by a national or international association.

When Jannik Sinner received the award for South Tyrol’s Sportsman of the Year on Saturday, he provided interesting insights. He said he used the time to spend more time with his friends and family. At the same time, the 23-year-old added that the three-month break had been a very long one and that he was incredibly excited to return to Rome. To ensure he's fully prepared for the Masters 1000 tournament in the Italian capital, his ban on official training grounds ends on Sunday, April 13.

This means that Sinner, who mainly did physical training during the first months of his ban, can now hit balls again at his headquarters, the Monte-Carlo Country Club – with players registered with the World Tennis Federation.

Get to work

Coaches Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill, as well as athletic trainer Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio, will be by his side in the Principality. In recent days, Coach Cahill, who was in Miami during Sinner's suspension, posted a photo with Vagnozzi and former world number one Simona Halep in Monte Carlo. The coaching staff is also eager for the eagerly awaited transition to daily training.

Now there are about four weeks left before the Sextner will play his first match in Rome – as world number 1, of course. Meanwhile, he no longer holds the lead in the yearly rankings after Carlos Alcaraz overtook him with the Final entry at the Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo by 60 points. Curiously, the Spaniard has already played six tournaments this season, while Sinner has only played one. Alcaraz will face Lorenzo Musetti in the final.
