Jannik Sinner's love outing is causing a huge response

A simple “yes” from Jannik Sinner caused a huge media sensation on Wednesday. It was the answer to a question that had absolutely nothing to do with tennis.

Jannik Sinner is not the subject of conversation these days on the tennis court, but mainly away from the sporting events. That's not because his smooth opening victory at the French Open offered little spectacle. And not necessarily because of his injury break of several weeks. But rather in his private life, which he has recently shared with Anna Kalinskaya, a Russian tennis player.

After gossip reports in this direction had piled up for days and weeks, Sinner himself came clean. In the press conference after his three-set win against Christopher Eubanks, a journalist's question about the status of his relationship with Kalinskaya burst into the room. The 22-year-old Sexten seemed prepared and answered dryly: “You know I don’t like to talk about my private life. Yes, I'm dating Anna, but we keep everything very private. I don’t want to say anything more about it.”

It was these three monosyllabic sentences that made the computers boot up and the keyboards rattle in many media companies. Within a very short time, Sinner's statement was reported worldwide. Renowned Italian media like the Republic and the Corriere della Sera, which otherwise only cover tennis marginally, but also numerous news agencies, online portals and newspapers - from the Austrian one Kronen Zeitung, about the Swiss Viewthe New York Post to India Today, spread the news rapidly.

Sinner stays cool

And how does Sinner deal with all the hype? He's acting cool as usual. After completing his long interview marathon, he pulled the hood of his hoody far over his forehead and walked to Court 14 of the huge tennis facility in Roland Garros. His Anna was in top form there late on Tuesday afternoon. She defeated the French Clara Burel in her opening game 7:6, 7:5. And a smiling Sinner applauded appreciatively in Kalinskaya's support box after the game. For his new love, Sinner also missed the popcorn match between Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal, which took place at the same time.
