Everyone in the tennis world has long known that Jannik Sinner has a great fighting spirit. Nevertheless, it is always impressive how the Sextner displays this quality. On Monday in the round of 23 in Melbourne, Sinner was clearly suffering from physical problems, but somehow the XNUMX-year-old dragged himself across the court and finally defeated his opponent Holger Rune in four sets. An expression of his fighting spirit and his great class.
"Today I not only played against a strong opponent, but also a little against myself." Sinner said this after the match, which took place in Melbourne at lunchtime and under the blazing sun. At the beginning of the second set, the South Tyrolean first began to experience physical problems when he suddenly moved more slowly and was obviously struggling. When Sinner sat down on the bench during a change of ends, his hands were shaking. He also had to take a medical time-out.

After the match, the reigning Australian Open champion explained in the field interview: "It was a strange morning today. When I woke up, I didn't feel well and I already knew that it was going to be a tough match. I didn't do any warm-up program, but drove to the court as late as possible."
“Today’s victory was 90 percent yours.” Jannik Sinner to the fans
Afterwards, Sinner gave special praise to the many fans. "Your support helped me so much today. Today's victory was 90 percent yours, the other 10 percent was me trying to make you happy." With these words, the world number one received thunderous applause in the Rod Laver Arena, the largest stadium in Melbourne.
Now a favorite opponent is waiting
At the press conference a little later, Sinner did not want to go into too much detail about what exactly was bothering him. "I just didn't feel well health-wise, was a bit dizzy at times. Before the match I spoke to the doctor, who checked me out and gave me some medicine. That helped. I'm happy that I made it to the next round," said the 23-year-old, who will face Alex De Minaur in the quarter-finals. The Australian is one of Sinner's favorite opponents: nine games, nine wins - it doesn't get any better than that.Edit Profile
