Sinner and the hurdle Alexander Zverev

It was already clear after the draw that Jannik Sinner was expecting a tough program at the US Open. On Tuesday night, the South Tyrolean will meet his first real top-class player.

From 2.30 a.m. (CEST) Sinner will play against Alexander Zverev in New York. The German was already number 2 in the world before a serious injury in the semi-finals of last year's French Open slowed him down for a long time. The Hamburg resident has now somewhat rehabilitated himself. “Sascha” is still waiting for a Grand Slam title.

In the meantime, Zverev is spit out by the ATP computer in position 12. Sinner is currently number 6 in the world and is therefore the slight favorite. But be careful: In the direct duels it is 3:1 for Zverev. The 26-year-old would like to finally score another big coup in New York.

Whoever advances could play Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. The Spaniard will face Italy's surprise man Matteo Arnaldi on Monday evening (2nd match after 18 p.m.). In any case, fans of the US Open would be looking forward to a repeat of last year's quarter-final duel between Sinner and Alcaraz. This five-set thriller electrified the tennis world at the time.
