Tennis national championship: semi-finalists determined

Val Gardena's David Kostner (2.6) prevailed today in the quarterfinals against Jonas Ciechi (3.2) in a very even match with 7:5, 7:5. Ciechi only got into the main draw through qualification. In the semifinals, Kostner will face defending champion Vigani (2.4), as he did last year when he lost in three sets. The second semi-final, however, will be contested by Patric Prinoth (2.4) and Philipp Köll (2.7). The 22-year-old from Meran, who is eligible to play for TC Bozen, eliminated Nicola Rispoli (3.3) 7:6, 6:2 today. Rispoli had previously surprisingly thrown Michael Kerschbaumer (2.8) and Markus Innerebner (2.8) out of the competition.

Defending champion Vera Ploner is the top favorite among women

The semi-finalists were also determined today in the women's open tournament. Defending champion Vera Ploner plays against her teammate at TC St. Georgen, Silvia Saccani. The 15-year-old narrowly prevailed today against Marion Viertler from TC Meran, who is two years younger than her, 6:4, 7:6. Maria Sole Moggio from Bolzano, number 2 on the seeding list, has Jannine Hopfgartner as her opponent. The Puster native, who trains with Andrea Campidonico in Bolzano, eliminated Bettina Paoli 6:2, 6:2 in the quarterfinals.

The first two semi-finalists have also been determined in the third category for men. Defending champion Mathis Pesarin plays against Tobias Tappeiner from Pauls. The second semi-final has yet to be determined. For the women, however, Karen Sigmund (3.1) meets Silvia Saccani (3.3) and Elisa Crazzolara (3.1) meets Marion Viertler (3.4).

In the fourth category for women, the semi-final pairings are Patrizia Gozzi (4.2) against Larissa Tschenett (4.2) and Ruth Malojer (4.2) against Simona Sedlak (4.3). The men still have to play the quarterfinals.
