Tennis superstar: emergency surgery on genitals

Andrey Rublev has been one of the best tennis players in the world for years. Recently, the Russian experienced some anxious hours.

Andrey Rublev played in the ATP 250 tournament in Stockholm this week, which did not end as he had hoped. In the quarterfinals, the Russian had to admit defeat to the Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka. But it was not this note that caused a stir in the tennis world on Friday. Rather, Rublev's statements at the press conference caused quite a stir.

"I almost had to have one of my testicles amputated," said the world number seven. The painful incident occurred after his round of 16 exit at the US Open in early September. "I suddenly had severe pain," said Rublev, who then went to the hospital. "After the checks, I was classified as an emergency and immediately taken to the operating room. It was only because I was operated on so quickly that the matter ended well."

Rublev continues: "I was very lucky. Once the blood stops flowing, you only have five or six hours for the operation. After that, the only option is amputation. Fortunately, in my case, the doctors fixed everything in time." Rublev then adds: "The last thing I did before the operation was to sign the document in which I agreed to have my testicle amputated." Fortunately, amputation was not necessary in the end.
