Despite forced break: Milestone for Jannik Sinner

Although Jannik Sinner is still on a forced break until the beginning of May, the South Tyrolean is making waves. On Easter Monday, the South Tyrolean world number one reached another milestone.

Jannik Sinner's comeback after the enforced break is getting closer and closer. The South Tyrolean is now back in training, most recently Jack Draper is available as a sparring partner. But Sinner is also making a name for himself off the court. On Easter Monday, Sinner caught up with an absolute tennis legend in a special ranking.

In June 2024, the Pustertal native became world No. 1 for the first time and has held this position ever since. That's a total of 46 weeks. This puts him on par with Rafael Nadal: When the Spaniard first became No. 1 at the beginning of his career, he also remained on the tennis throne for 46 consecutive weeks. Note: Nadal spent a total of 209 weeks at No. 1.

4 players at the top longer than Sinner

In this particular ranking, only four players surpass Sinner and Nadal. When Novak Djokovic first rose to No. 1, he defended his position for 53 weeks, while Lleyton Hewitt held the number one spot for 75 weeks. The legendary Jimmy Connors (1) and Roger Federer, who reigned supreme for an incredible 160 weeks after his initial ascent to No. 1—the equivalent of roughly four and a half years—seem virtually unattainable in this ranking.

The fact is, however, that Jannik Sinner has long since reached the highest echelons of the sophisticated tennis world. Italian tennis fans can look forward to the world number 1 making his eagerly awaited comeback starting May 7 at the Internazionali d'Italia in Rome (ATP 1000).
