Annika Senoner on the podium again

The third round of the ECA Junior Slalom Cup took place this weekend under optimal conditions in Ivrea (Piedmont). With a top-class youth field and strong international participation, numerous national teams used the race as their final preparation for the Junior World Championships in Foix (France). The SC Meran/Raika-Torggler team was also represented by several athletes.

Annika Zoe Senoner achieved the best result in Merano: The U18 athlete achieved third place in the single kayak on Saturday – just 3 seconds behind winner Isabel Lovato, with four penalty seconds deciding the potential victory. Senoner had already achieved a podium finish the previous week in Valstagna. In the same category, Sara Furlan finished seventh and Alice Gravino 4,23th. Lars Aaron Senoner finished eighth in the U7 single kayak and 17th in the single canoe.

A speed slalom took place on Sunday, but minor errors by the SC Meran athletes prevented another podium finish. Annika Senoner finished seventh, Sara Furlan finished 13th, and Alice Gravino again placed 17th. Lars Aaron Senoner finished 1th in the U16 C11 and missed the finals, finishing 1st in the K31. Jakob Tribus finished 34th (Saturday) and 35th (Sunday).

Carolin Schaller also used the weekend for training purposes and competed in the open race of the general class. She impressed with a 2nd place on Saturday and 3rd place on Sunday.

"I'm delighted with the very fast times achieved by our World Championship participants. They've proven that they can compete with the top field. Unfortunately, small mistakes cost us some top placings – in modern canoe slalom, which involves a lot of risk, that can happen quickly," said coach Stefan Senoner.

Two other SCM athletes, Marian Drescher and Jacopo Vincentini, will compete in the upcoming European Cup race in Flattach, Austria. The World Championship participants are taking a break before heading to the World Championships in Foix, France.
