South Tyrol's canoe talents in action at the Junior European Championships

After the good performances at the Junior and U23 World Championships in Foix, the next major international event is already upon us for the young talents of SC Meran-Raika/Torggler.

From July 30 to August 3, 2025, Sara Furlan, Annika Zoe Senoner, and Lars Aaron Senoner will compete against the continent's elite at the Canoe Slalom European Championships for Juniors and U23s in Solkan, Slovenia. Furlan and Annika Senoner will compete in the K1 Junior Women (U18) event, while Lars Senoner will compete in the C1 Junior Men event. All three are also registered for the team events with the Italian national team.

The competitions begin on Wednesday with the K1 preliminary rounds and the K1 team races. The junior C1 preliminary rounds with Lars Senoner follow on Thursday. The K1 semifinals and finals are scheduled for Friday, and the C1 finals for Saturday. Sara Furlan is looking forward to the European Championships with anticipation: "I'm really looking forward to the European Championships and hope to show my skills there. I'll give it my all and hopefully secure a spot in the semifinals."

Everyone is hot

Annika Zoe Senoner is also motivated: "After the World Championships, we had a few weeks to prepare specifically for the European Championships. My goal now is to stay focused and approach each race as best as possible. I hope to make it to the final this time."
“A place in the final of the European Championships in Solkan is therefore within reach.” Lars Aaron Senoner

Lars Aaron Senoner, who recently showed strong runs at the Italian Championships in Ivrea, says: "I've seen that I can be at the top of the junior ranks. A final at the European Championships in Solkan is within reach – but anything can always happen in slalom. In any case, I'm also looking forward to meeting my friends on the national team."

Coach Stefan Senoner also believes the Merano team is well prepared: "The experiences at the World Championships in Foix three weeks ago have given the Merano juniors a huge boost. In the past few weeks, we have been able to raise our technical and athletic standards even further. The mood was particularly inspiring for the other SCM canoeists, who often attended these training sessions. If all goes well, Sara, Annika, and Lars have a good chance of reaching the final. The team race will also be particularly exciting – Italy has a very strong field there, and a medal would be realistic. We know Solkan well, and the conditions are similar to those in Merano – so we can approach this race relaxed and highly motivated."
