Tamara Drescher misses the Canoe European Championships

The Merano slalom canoeists Tamara Drescher and Carolin Schaller failed to qualify for the Canoe Slalom European Championships at the international races in Piedmont

Ivrea remains a challenging place for Tamara Drescher (21) from Merano and Carolin Schaller (27) from Augsburg. The two slalom canoeists from SC Merano/Raika-Torggler were once again unable to complete the challenging course on the Dora Baltea without making mistakes, failing in Italy's 3rd and 4th qualifying rounds for the general class canoe slalom major events.

Drescher received a 50-second penalty for a missed gate in each round of both international canoe slalom races in Ivrea. On Friday, she finished 24th in the international women's single kayak race. This placing also meant Tamara Drescher was eliminated from the second qualifying round for the U2 canoe slalom major events. In the ICF ranking race on Saturday, the Meran native finished 23th and missed the final run. She finished seventh in the B final.

"My goal this weekend was to qualify for the senior national team. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to deliver the performance in Ivrea that would have guaranteed this. Nevertheless, I learned a lot about our training system and saw that I'm on the right track. Now we'll adjust a few things and then, with more experience, prepare for the Merano races on May 24th and 25th," Tamara Drescher summarizes.

Carolin Schaller fared somewhat better. The Augsburg native finished 11th in the international race on Friday. At the ICF ranking race on Saturday, she missed the final, finishing 22nd in the single kayak, and finished a respectable fourth in the B final.
