World Cup in Budapest: Maicol Verzotto jumps on Saturday

The 29-year-old is contesting his fifth intercontinental title fights in Budapest (his first World Championships were in Rome in 2009). Verzotto and Noemi Batki will enter the competition on Saturday at 13 p.m. with the mixed synchronized diving from the tower. The two divers enter the race with outsider chances. Almost a month ago, the pair won the European Championship bronze in Kiev (Ukraine) and narrowly missed the 299,58 mark with 300 points. For a top ranking, Verzotto and Batki would have to achieve at least 300 points on Saturday. The Bolzano diver is deliberately foregoing the individual competition from the tower at this World Championships in order to concentrate fully on mixed synchronized diving.

On Saturday, July 22nd, Verzotto will compete together with Elena Bertocchi in the mixed synchronized diving from the 3m board. The two divers enter the race as reigning European champions, but due to the strong competitors, their chances of winning a medal are rather poor. China, Australia and Canada are among the clear favorites in this competition.

For 19-year-old Vladimir Barbu, who is taking part in a World Cup for the first time, the major event begins on Monday with the men's synchronous competition from the tower.
