Baby on the way: Biathlon star sweetens his career end

A few weeks after the end of the season, a few weeks after his retirement from the sport, a biathlon great has announced a happy message.

It was one of the most emotional moments of this winter sports season: On March 21, siblings Johannes Thingnes Bö and Tarjei Bö ended their careers together. One, Johannes Thingnes, is perhaps the best biathlete ever. The other, Tarjei, has nothing to hide with his successes, medals, and triumphs.

In any case, two brothers who shaped the last decade of biathlon like few others have retired. At least one of them won't be bored in retirement: The older one, Tarjei, is expecting a new addition to the family.

"Soon it will be more crowded in the car and there will be even more love at home, because there will be a new addition to our gang," Tarjei Bö's wife Gita wrote alongside a photo of her with a beautiful baby bump. The couple tied the knot last summer and have been parents since September 2022. That's when their firstborn son, Aron, was born.

Now the former star athlete is expecting another addition to his family. However, it may take some time before his children realize what a biathlon personality their father was. Three Olympic gold medals, twelve world championship titles, one overall World Cup, and countless podium finishes in the highest biathlon competition series – Tarjei Bö has left his mark. Now the 36-year-old can fully enjoy family life, as he has been retired for about a month.
