Individual gold: Julia Simon is on point

Julia Simon has not managed to win a single race all season. Now the Frenchwoman has struck at the World Championships in Lenzerheide.

Julia Simon was crowned world champion in the individual competition for the first time on Tuesday in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. With only one penalty minute and a strong running performance, the 28-year-old was unbeatable in dream weather. The 2022/23 overall World Cup winner clearly won ahead of the Swede Ella Halvarsson and her teammate Lou Jeanmonnot.

In the absence of Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi, Samuela Comola became the best Azzurra. The Aostan athlete finished 15th with one shooting error. Michela Carrara was on her way to her next top result before she received three penalty minutes at the last stop. As a result, Carrara fell back to 27th place.

The only South Tyrolean, Hannah Auchentaller, had a good competition. With two shooting errors and a solid running performance, the Antholz native finished 21st. For Auchentaller, this was the best individual result at this World Championship. Close behind her was Lukas Hofer's girlfriend, Johanna Puff (22nd). The Bavarian, who won gold in this discipline at the European Championships in Martell this year, even remained error-free on her World Championship debut at the shooting range. Her boyfriend will then continue with the men's individual event on Wednesday (15.05:XNUMX p.m.).
