Wedding bells: Biathlon power couple says “yes”

Two former top biathlon athletes recently had their wedding bells ring.

This weekend, former French national team biathletes Célia Aymonier and Simon Desthieux tied the knot in Fourgs, the bride's hometown. According to the French media, the ceremony was attended by many well-known faces from the biathlon world, including Stéphane Bouthiaux (director of the French teams), Quentin Fillon Maillet, Frédéric Jean and Anaïs Bescond.

After retiring from competitive sports at the end of the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons, the two focused on being parents to their son Jules, who was born in June 2021. Now they sealed their relationship with marriage. Desthieux thus kept the promise he made when he withdrew from competitions. At the time, he wrote on social media: “It’s time for me to enjoy my family, my friends and my son!”

Aymonier celebrated 3 relay World Cup victories and several podium finishes in her career, while Desthieux won Olympic gold in the mixed relay in Pyeongchang in 2018. After the birth of their son, the two added another sense of achievement to their lives by getting married.
