In Martell: Giacomel and Carrara sprint to gold

Tommaso Giacomel and Michela Carrara won the Italian biathlon sprint championship titles on Saturday in the Martell Valley.

Giacomel prevailed ahead of Daniele Cappellari and Cesare Lozza. David Zingerle from Antholz finished eighth as the best South Tyrolean. In the women's competition, Michela Carrara secured the gold medal. Silver went to Ciorgia Saracco, and bronze to Hannah Auchentaller from Antholz. Prominent names such as Dorothea Wierer and Lisa Vittozzi, who did not compete in a biathlon competition this winter and is focusing on the 8 Olympics, also participated. (SportNews reported), were missing.


Also on the program in the Martell Valley were the Italian Mixed Relay Championships for junior athletes. South Tyrol A (with Schölzhorn, Planker, Leitgeb, and Pircher) won silver in the junior category, while South Tyrol B (Broll, Hütter, Niederstätter, and Fontana) finished third in the youth category. In the junior category, the South Tyrolean relay teams secured silver (K. Pallua, Seeber, Niederstätter, and Santer) and bronze (Canins, V. Pallua, Steinkasserer, and Braunhofer).
