Italy's women's relay team has no chance of a medal

Italy's women's relay team missed out on a top placing at the Biathlon World Championships in Lenzerheide. Gold, however, went to the top favorites.

Hannah Auchentaller, Dorothea Wierer, Samuela Comola and Michela Carrara had to deal with Place 7 A medal win would have been surprising, but the Blue certainly hoped for. Italy was never actually on course for a top-3 finish. After the penalty lap by final runner Carrara, all dreams were finally over.

Auchentaller once again showed a solid performance as the first runner - even though she had to reload twice during the standing shooting. The Antholz native handed over to Wierer in seventh place. The gap to the podium was only a few seconds. The injured Wierer kept Italy in this place with three reloads. The gap to the medals was around 20 seconds.

Comola and final runner Carrara were unable to make up for this handicap. Carrara, who also took over in seventh place, even had to go into the penalty loop in the prone shooting. This was the last chance of a medal. In the final round, Carrara at least caught up with Slovenia.

Gold for France

Gold grabbed, not surprisingly, France (Jeanmonnot, Michelon, Braisaz-Bouchet and Simon), which celebrated a safe start-to-finish victory. Silver went on Norway, although Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold had to go into the penalty loop again. third-placedSweden Top runner Elvira Öberg had to do extra meters.

Fourth place went somewhat surprisingly to Austria, which competed without the sick Anna Gandler. Germany had to settle for fifth place - also because final runner Franziska Preuß was not able to pull the chestnuts out of the fire this time. The World Championships in Lenzerheide continue on Saturday at 4:5 p.m. with the men's relay. The two mass starts will take place on Sunday.
