Simon Schempp remains the great Antholz dominator

At the beginning of the year, Simon Schempp had to watch the biathlon races from his own living room due to illness. But there was no sign of weakness from him today in Antholz. The 27-year-old from Ruhpolding offered a true demonstration of power. With a flawless performance at the shooting range and an incredibly strong performance on the skis, he laid the foundation for his third sprint victory this season. His successful run in Antholz is even more impressive: This is his fifth victory in a row in Antholz. He has therefore won the last five individual races in South Tyrol.

The closest Schempp came on Friday was the Russian Maxim Tsvetkov, who finished second, 5,8 seconds behind, and thus made it to the podium for the first time in his career. Tarjei Bø from Norway came third. Like Tsvetkov, he remained flawless at the shooting range. Bø is closing in on leader Martin Fourcade in the sprint classification. The confident leader of the overall World Cup had to settle for 28th place in Antholz.

Hofer with the best result of the season

The Italian biathlon team recorded three top 20 placements in the first men's race in Antholz. Lukas Hofer was the best Azzurro. The Montaler confirmed its slight upward trend in recent weeks with twelfth place. A mistake with the last shot prevented an absolute top placement, but Hofer can still be happy about his best result of the season.

Christian De Lorenzi performed surprisingly well with 16th place. The Rasner local hero Dominik Windisch was three positions further back in the ranking. He missed twice at the shooting range. The fourth Italian, Giuseppe Montello, had to settle for 97th place.

Simon Schempp is once again putting his stamp on the World Cup in South Tyrol this year. The German biathlon star won the men's 10 km sprint on Friday and celebrated his fifth victory in a row in Antholz.
