German triple victory in Cortina – Baumgartner in the top ten

The Bobsleigh World Cup opened with the Olympic dress rehearsal in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Once again, German bobsleighs dominated. Patrick Baumgartner from Puster Valley finished in seventh place.

Johannes Lochner won the first two-man bobsleigh race on the new Olympic track, Eugenio Monti, with his brakeman Georg Fleischhauer, finishing 0,34 seconds ahead of his long-time rival Francesco Friedrich (with Alexander Schüller). Adam Ammour, with brakeman Alexander Schaller, completed the German sweep of the podium.

Patrick Baumgartner, competing with brakeman Robert Mircea, finished seventh. He was 1,38 seconds behind the winning German bobsled. Alex Verginer from Val Badia (with Mario Lambrughi) missed qualifying for the second run of the top 20, finishing 25th. The third Italian bobsled, driven by Mattia Varola (with Fabio Batti), finished no higher than 29th.

The four-man bobsleigh races are scheduled for Sunday. The first run starts at 1:30 p.m.
