Grassl has what it takes to win European Championship medal

South Tyrol is strongly represented with 5 athletes in 3 different disciplines: Daniel Grassl, Maurizio Zandron and Jari Kessler in the men's category, Manuel Piazza in the pairs category and Anna Pezzetta in the women's category.

Lara Naki Gutmann from Trento, although not a true South Tyrolean, has roots in Bolzano and is also registered in the women's category. It is curious that three of the participants are represented under different flags. Manuel Piazza from Val Gardena, who can be seen in the pairs' short program today, is competing for Iceland with his partner Julia Gunnarsdottir. After winning the national championship a few weeks ago, he is now representing Iceland for the first time at a European championship in this discipline.

Maurizio Zandron, on the other hand, is a regular at the European Championships for men. The 32-year-old has been competing for Austria for several years and is aiming for a place in the top midfield at this European Championship. The Bozen native has 6 Austrian titles to his name and numerous international awards.

European Championship debut of Anna Pezzetta & focus on Grassl Jari Kessler is competing under the Croatian flag. The Nonsberg native is taking part in the European Championships for the fourth time and is hoping to make it to the final.

Of course, special attention is paid to Daniel Grassl. After his one-year suspension from competition, the Meran native made a fantastic comeback this season: 1st place in the Challenger event, 2 medals in Grand Prix competitions and 2nd place a week ago at the Universiade in Turin are the results from the first half of the season.

With two quadruple jumps in the short program and a free program with even more technical difficulties, the 2-year-old could manage to grab his second European Championship medal. In the women's category, Anna Pezzetta is making her European Championship debut. The woman from Bolzano, who trains in Milan, is entering the race as the newly crowned Italian champion. She will be supported by Lara Naki Gutmann from Trento. The 22-year-old won a medal at a Grand Prix event for the first time this year and could place in the top ranks in Tallinn. The favorites

The favorites In the men's field, Adam Siao Him Fa from France is the biggest contender for gold. The reigning European champion won the French Grand Prix and took third place in the Chinese Grand Prix. With a personal season best of 3 points, he is only a few points ahead of Grassl (272,38). Kevin Aymoz is also aiming for a European Championship medal. The Frenchman has a season best of 267,08 points.

The women's competition is also exciting. Anastasiia Gubanova from Georgia has good prospects, as she will face a strong Kimmy Repond (Switzerland) and Nina Pinzarrone (Belgium). Lara Naki Gutmann should also be within touching distance of the podium with a flawless performance.

In the pairs, Minerva Hase/Nikita Volodin from Germany are considered the big favorites for gold, followed by Anastasiia Metelkina/Luka Beruvala from Georgia and Sara Conti/Niccolò Macii from Milan.

In the ice dancing category, Charlène Guignard/Marco Fabbri (Italy) are aiming for their third title in a row. After winning bronze at the last World Championships, all signs point to another European Championship victory. The Milanese will face competition from Lilah Fear/Lewis Gibson from Great Britain and Alison Reed/Saulius Ambrulevicius (Lithuania).
