In her European Championship debut: Maybritt Vigl finishes in the top 10

21-year-old Maybritt Vigl (Carabinieri) from Ritten took part for the first time in the European Speed ​​Skating Championships in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Poland this weekend and gained valuable international experience.

On Saturday, Vigl competed in the 500 meters and finished 10th with a time of 39,46 seconds. Katja Ziomek-Nogal from Poland secured the victory with a time of 37,79 seconds. "The 500 meters were quite solid," Vigl concluded.


On Sunday, Vigl competed in the 1000-meter race, finishing in 1:19.35 minutes in 12th place. Nikola Zdráhalova from the Czech Republic won the race in 1:16.06 minutes. "I expected a bit more from the 1000 meters," Vigl admitted, "especially since I felt really good during training and trained a lot and intensively."

“My first European Championship was definitely a cool experience and will certainly remain a fond memory,” said Vigl. “The season isn’t long anymore; now the training camp in Klobenstein is coming up. After that, it’s on to the World Cup in Inzell.”

The fifth and final World Cup event of the season will take place in Inzell, Germany, from January 23rd to 25th. Afterwards, the world's best speed skaters will travel to Milan, where further races will be held from February 6th to 22nd in preparation for the Olympic Games. The season will conclude with the Sprint and Allround World Championships from March 5th to 8th in Heerenveen, Netherlands.
