Laura Peveri left her mark on the Ritten World Cup.

Italy celebrates the end of the Junior World Cup in Ritten

The Junior World Cup for speed skating on Ritten was completed on Sunday in fantastic winter weather. While the Asian athletes in particular stood out in the sprint distance of 500 meters, the Italian Laura Peveri, like the day before, secured two home victories, this time in the 1500 meters and in the mass start. In addition, the Czech Metodej Jilek set a new junior distance record.

While the weather on Saturday morning was still really wintry with fog and snow, the junior speed skaters were greeted by bright sunshine on Sunday. The semi-finals for the mass starts began, before the 500 meters, in which the Asian speed skaters particularly excelled. The South Korean Huidan Jung and the Japanese Issa Gunji won the juniors, while the Kazakh Margarita Artemieva and the South Korean Sanghun Oh celebrated their World Cup success in the neo-seniors. Maybritt Vigl from Ritten was also in action among the juniors and reached 17th place, while Romedius Thurner came 13th among the neo-seniors.

The competitions over the 1500 meter distance took place in the early afternoon. And here Laura Peveri achieved her next home victory: After her victory in the 3000 meters on Saturday, she followed up with her next triumph in the Neo-Seniors category. Federica Maffei, another Italian, is in second place. In the men's neo-senior race, the victory went to the Norwegian Sigurd Holbo Dyrset, while Romedius Thurner came in 17th. The juniors had already taken part in the 1500 meters. The Czech Metodej Jilek not only set a new personal record with his time of 1.48,60:1.49,49 minutes, but also improved the junior course record set by the Norwegian Sverre Lunde Pedersen (2012:XNUMX minutes, set in XNUMX). The Dutch Meike Veen won among the women.

Mass starts conclude the World Cup spectacularly

Last but not least, it was spectacular again as the mass start finals were on the program. Under the floodlights of the Ritten Arena, victory among the juniors went to the Japanese Hana Noake, who set the fastest time after 10 laps ahead of the Pole Hanna Mazur and the South Korean Leewon Lim. In the subsequent mass start final for the neo-seniors, Laura Peveri celebrated again, winning ahead of the Norwegian Julie Berg Sjobrend and - also back on the podium - the Italian Federica Maffei.

In the men's category, Metodej Jilek's next stroke followed in the Juniors category. The Czech relegated the South Korean Jiho Yoon and the Japanese Yuta Fuchigami to second and third place. In the Neo-Seniors category, the Norwegian Sigurd Holbo Dyrset triumphed ahead of the two Germans Bogdan Brauer and Gabriel Groß, while Romedius Thurner completed the mass start in 13th place. This concluded the Junior World Cup on the Ritten. In the coming season, the Ritten Arena will feature twice in the racing calendar of the international speed skating association ISU: In February 2025, the Junior World Cup final will take place in Klobenstein, and a week later the Junior World Championship will take place on the South Tyrolean high plateau.
