Pellegrino as a great bearer of hope The Italian sprint star was already on the winner's podium in Toblach in 2015, and last year he also made it onto the podium in third place in the team competition with Dietmar Nöckler. Nöckler, who comes from Bruneck, will once again tackle the sprint and distance race in the Nordic Arena this year. In addition to him, two other South Tyroleans, Stefan Zelger and Michael Hellweger, have the best prospects of a starting place in the home race. The “Azzurri” and all other world-class athletes will once again find ideal competition conditions in Toblach this year. “Everything will be perfectly prepared here by the end of the year. We are currently waiting for really cold nights so that we can finish making snow on the trails. “But that shouldn’t be a problem in Dobbiaco,” assures Eugenio Rizzo with a wink. He is responsible for the slope work in the OK team. For the first time an opening ceremony in the village center Preparations are not only in full swing around the Nordic Arena, people also want to be well prepared for the big event in the Toblacher Gemeindestube - especially since the village center will be included in the event this year. “This is the next big innovation,” reveals Mayor Guido Bocher. “The Tour de Ski will be ceremoniously opened in the center on December 28th. The athletes arrive there. We have a great cross-country skiing tradition in Toblach, but this evening will be something very special and shows that the whole village is behind the event.”

Not only will the current stars of the scene make an appearance at the opening ceremony, many of Italy's former top cross-country skiers have also confirmed their attendance. They will all be present at a press conference and an autograph session. The event will also mark the award ceremony for the MiniWorldCup, which will be held by the international ski association FIS for the first time during all Tour de Ski stages. On Friday afternoon in the Nordic Arena, the young athletes have the opportunity to show off their skills on the competition track and at the same time fully enjoy the World Cup feeling - something that has never happened in Dobbiaco before.
