Norwegians ensure five-fold triumph in Toblach

During the women's award ceremony, the Frecce Tricolori drew their ribbons over the Dobbiaco cross-country skiing center. They could have easily replaced the green, white and red smoke with the national colors of Norway, because what the Scandinavians did on the 10 kilometer long cross-country ski run was simply incredible. In a pack of five they stalked yesterday's winner Charlotte Kalla and left her behind halfway through the race. The overall World Cup leader from Sweden had to settle for sixth place, while a three-way battle developed between Norway at the front. In the final sprint, classic specialist Bjørgen was ultimately ahead. The cross-country skiing superstar left Ingvild Flugstad Østberg behind by three tenths of a second. Like the day before, Heidi Weng took third place.

The race was once again disappointing for the host nation. Elisa Brocard was once again the best Azzurra, although she missed out on a top 35 placement in 30th place. Lucia Scardoni, Giulia Stürz, Anna Comarella, Caterina Ganz, Sara Pellegrini and Virginia De Martin Topranin placed even further back in the rankings. There was no South Tyrolean at the start.

The classic pursuit will follow shortly, which concludes this year's World Cup stage in Toblach.

Marit Bjørgen (NOR): “In the last few weeks I've been a bit out of step, so it was extremely important for me to be at the front here. The fact that it was enough for first place in the end is even nicer. This victory gives me a lot of confidence for the next races. My eyes are already somewhat focused on the Olympics and in this regard I was impressed by Charlotte Kalla's performances here in Dobbiaco. She will demand everything from us Norwegians in South Korea.”

Ingvild Flugstad Østberg (NOR): “That was a really good weekend. It wasn't easy to make contact with the top, but today I felt really good. If my form continues to improve, I will travel to the Olympic Games in top condition.”

Heidi Weng (NOR): “I am really happy with these two podium finishes in Toblach. Marit was simply in a class of her own today. We can all learn a lot from her in this discipline. But my other teammates also showed impressively what great potential this team has.”

Norwegians ensure five-fold triumph in Toblach

The athletes from the number one cross-country skiing nation set off real fireworks in the Nordic Arena on the second day of the World Cup. Marit Bjørgen won the pursuit race in classic style ahead of four teammates.
