Superstar Kläbo and his girlfriend: A curious romance

Johannes Hösflot Kläbo is the big superstar at the Nordic World Ski Championships. Always with him: his girlfriend Pernille. But there is something strange about their romance.

If Johannes Hösflot Kläbo is the big superstar at the Nordic World Ski Championships with five gold medals to date, then his girlfriend Pernille Dösvik can be described as a secret heroine. But not because she is simply the better half of arguably the best cross-country skier of all time, but because she too has left her mark at the World Championships. Dösvik played a key role in designing the official World Championship sweaters, which are eye-catching with their striking patterns and colors.

The Kläbos have already left their mark on the World Cup, and in the place where they live. Their shared house in Trondheim is just a few minutes' drive from the finish stadium.

It is a special romance that Kläbo and his girlfriend have had since 2018. They both grew up in Trondheim and met through mutual friends. He was the one who made the first move, Pernille told the Norwegian newspaper KK. Kläbo liked a photo of Dösvik, she added him on Snapchat - and one thing led to another. "I fell in love with him because he was so nice. Johannes is really decent and well-mannered."

At his side, Dösvik, who is currently completing her master's degree and is also an influencer, quickly experienced what it means to be with one of the greatest cross-country skiing talents of all time. "When we first started dating, he got up at six o'clock every day to train. At first there were no sweets, no alcohol and he had to sleep for so long. Now he's become a bit more relaxed," her friend smiles.

Strict rules in winter

In winter, however, strict rules apply to Dösvik, because Kläbo's main premise is: Don't get sick! "If I've been to the cinema with friends, I have to spend two days in quarantine with my mom and dad to make sure I don't bring an infection home with me," says the cross-country skiing superstar's sweetheart.

A romantic dinner in a restaurant is also taboo, and over the years Dösvik has had to "cancel many family birthdays because it's not worth going into quarantine," she says. When Kläbo won the Tour de Ski this year and Pernille cheered her on at the finish, she had to go home without a kiss or a hug - the risk was simply too great for the cross-country skier.

Kläbo's girlfriend is happy to do all of this, because "I want him to be able to live his dream." And she adds: "Outside of the season, we have a great time together. We go on holiday for two weeks and spend a great time together." And at the Nordic World Ski Championships, Pernille Dösvik is keeping her fingers crossed for her boyfriend in the stadium at every race. So far, it has brought a lot of luck.
