“Because I never managed to make a living from my sport”

A French top athlete and Olympic participant has decided to move on, but is forced to take a new path.

Cross-country skier Coralie Bentz will not end her career, but the 27-year-old writes on her social media channels: “I’m not stopping! Since last fall I've been thinking about what turn my career could take this spring." She explains that she took her athletic career lightly and worked part-time because she simply couldn't make a living from sport alone.

It is not surprising that it is difficult to reconcile a professional career and a job. For the coming season, Bentz will therefore take a different approach: “I plan to take part in some long-distance races next winter and I can’t wait! Now I'm going to start a new job in May and I'm also planning on doing a few races this summer to stay fit for next winter." Exactly which races they will be and in which discipline she will invest time and energy reveals the French woman doesn't.

The 27-year-old celebrated her greatest success to date in the 2021/22 season with 29th place in the Tour de Ski. She also achieved 38th and 44th place in the skiathlon and 30 km mass start as well as 40th place in the 10 kilometer classic at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
