The mass start is a jump-heavy competition, as the running takes place first and then the jumping. The gap created on the track is converted into points. And so Daniela Dejori, who lost 55 seconds to defending champion Gyda Westvold Hansen, had a deficit of 13,8 points. After a jump of 75,5 m, this deficit increased. The athlete from St. Christina lost 14 places and ultimately finished in 27th place. After overcoming an eating disorder, the 22-year-old entered the competition with subdued expectations.
21-year-old Yuna Kasai was delighted to win the world championship title. She overtook Westvold Hansen on the jump and ultimately won with a lead of 2,3 points. The Japanese athlete was even happier because her twin sister Haruka came third. Yuna Kasai won her first World Cup race in Otepää at the beginning of February - it was also a mass start then.

The big loser, besides the overall World Cup leader Nathalie Armbruster, who came sixth, was the local hero Ida Marie Hagen. The 19-time World Cup winner fell on the track and messed up her jump - ultimately she only finished 10th. The second South Tyrolean at the start, 17-year-old Anna Senoner, had to settle for 32nd place.
