Nightmare accident on the lift: Great concern for skiing talent

A terrible lift accident that occurred in Switzerland has shaken the skiing scene. The focus is on a young Canadian woman who was seriously injured.

It was supposed to be a training session like any other, but for 13-year-old Lily Kunstadt it ended in a nightmare. As has now become known, the young Canadian skier suffered serious injuries in a lift accident on August 31. What happened? Kunstadt was in Saas Fee (Switzerland) with her teammates for training purposes when the accident occurred in an inconspicuous situation.

The talented skier was riding up the slope on the T-bar lift (also known as a drag lift) when a defective T-bar moving downwards apparently got tangled up with the Canadian's. Kunstadt was then said to have been thrown through the air. She suffered broken ribs, facial injuries and broke four vertebrae. The young winter sportswoman was immediately transported to the hospital in Lausanne, where she underwent a seven-hour operation to repair her spine.

No feeling below the waist

However, the 13-year-old still has no feeling below the waist, and her vision is limited with her left eye. Kunstadt was supported in the hospital by her parents and downhill world champion Erik Guay, who works as the Canadians' coach. According to the Swiss View The public prosecutor's office of the Canton of Valais has launched an investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, Lily Kunstadt's parents launched a fundraiser to finance her return to Canada and medical treatment. "Lily faces a long road of rehabilitation and needs the support of our community. You can help by donating, sharing her story and sending messages of encouragement," the Canadian ski team wrote on Instagram.
