Normally, presents are given on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. But for one Swedish former ski racer, Santa Claus visited a few days early this year – and brought the most wonderful present of all. Former slalom skier Magdalena Fjällström became a mother for the first time on December 18th. She shared the news on Instagram.
"Merry Christmas from us," Fjällström wrote alongside an Instagram post showing her with her newborn son. The 64-time World Cup competitor had already announced in September, together with her partner Thomas, that she was expecting a baby boy, and now, just in time for Christmas, the baby arrived. Numerous former teammates, such as Frida Hansdotter and Anna Swenn-Larsson, offered their congratulations.
Magdalena Fjällström has had a turbulent skiing career. She was once one of Sweden's great slalom hopes, crowning herself Youth Olympic champion and Junior World Champion. However, numerous injuries subsequently prevented her from ever truly breaking through in the World Cup.
After her best winter season of 2019/20 (with a top-10 finish), Fjällström suffered another serious injury and subsequently received no further support from the federation. As a result, the Swede ended her career in January 2022. Now, with the birth of her first child, comes the biggest personal highlight.
