The Kristoffersen anger: “This is how they are ruining the sport of skiing”

If any proof was needed that Marco Odermatt is the new ski dominator, then this was it delivered on Saturday at the latest. With an incredible lead of 2,11 seconds, the Swiss secured victory in the Soldeu giant slalom and has now collected 2042 points this season - that's a new men's world record. Henrik Kristoffersen, who ended up in second place, also recognized Odermatt's dominance. However, the impulsive Norwegian also briefly foamed with anger. After the first round, Kristoffersen was really angry. “The Swiss are ruining skiing with runs like this,” he complained in an interview with Norwegian television. The reason for this excitement: the course setting, which was characterized by wide goal gaps in the first run - and was set by the Swiss assistant coach Johannes Hassler. For Kristoffersen it was “ridiculous” Kristoffersen finished the first round 1,70 seconds behind Odermatt. In the ORF interview, the Norwegian followed up and answered the question about setting the course: “Ridiculous”. As a slalom runner, Kristoffersen prefers courses that rotate more heavily, as this is where he can play to his strengths. However, the 29-year-old was not the only one with his criticism. ORF presenter Rainer Pariasek revealed that several athletes complained about the (too) large goal gaps. His ORF colleague and expert Hans Knauß simply said: “I can only recommend training for more fast runs. Then you won’t be so surprised.” In the end, Kristoffersen showed his sporty side. When asked about his second place, he said: “If it’s set like that, I’m just not good enough.”
