The next step of Elisa Platino

It should work out in 2 days because: The weather forecasts for next Saturday are not perfect, but there will be a race. And Elisa Platino is as ready as anyone can be. If the 24-year-old from Obermais had started last year with a severe handicap because of her carabinieri training, this year the preparation for the season went smoothly: “The preparation was okay. We skied in Les 2 Alpes in June, but then had 26 good days of skiing out of 20 days in Ushuaia in Argentina in August and September. Of course, that's not enough to be in top shape. But I think it’s the same for all drivers in Sölden now.”

Elisa Platino is a stand-up performer in the women's circus. She has always been highly talented and was in the C and B national teams from 2018 until after Corona in spring 2020. Like many others, she was “shaved away” back then, didn’t give up and continued to fight with the help of the Carabinieri sports group and their trainers Hannes Paul Schmid and Patrick Thaler. The reward: the Italian giant slalom championship title in 2022 in Sestriere in front of Marta Bassino, Roberta Melesi and Federica Brignone and the return to the European Cup national team. That's why she would have been placed as the second South Tyrolean in Sölden with Karoline Pichler - even though she was in Rome throughout September and October for her carabinieri training instead of doing ski training.

3 times points in the World Cup Although Sölden was canceled, Platino still caused a stir in the following months: She scored points three times in the World Cup (including 3th in Kranjska Gora, 16th in Are), while she achieved a number of top places in the European Cup and proved herself as Third place in the giant slalom classification secured a fixed starting place for all this year's races in this discipline. For Platino, there is no reason to take off: “I achieved much more last year than I could have expected. But I am also aware that from Saturday everything will start from scratch again. What was before no longer counts.” Especially since Platino has no idea why the famous button opened for her: “Because I couldn't train in the fall, I started the season fully focused, but didn't put any pressure on myself. Her strong results took Platino from the European Cup to the World Cup team. She belongs to the slalom giant slalom group with 6 other athletes, with only Platino and Asja Zenere being pure giant slalom specialists, while Martina Peterlini, Marta Rossetti, Beatrice Sola, Anita Gulli and Lara Della Mea are pure slalom skiers.

That's why Platino and Zenere often joined other groups for ski training with their coach Thierry Marguerettaz (he comes from Aosta) and their joint head skiman Paolo Bianchetti. Especially since Platino has his sights set on a second discipline, and that is the Super-G: “I will see to it that I start in a few FIS races in the new season and slowly work my way up to it. It’s the case that I’ll shit myself a little bit if it happens quickly.”
