Italy's slalom team in Kitzbühel: Stefano Gross, “captain” Manfred Mölgg, Alex Vinatzer, Tommaso Sala and Simon Maurberger. Missing: Giuliano Razzoli.

That's why Italy is suddenly so strong again in the slalom

The carefree Alex Vinatzer, the resurgent oldie Giuliano Razzoli, behind them the up-and-coming Simon Maurberger and Tommaso Sala - Italy is on the verge of fielding a really strong slalom team again. And still there: 39-year-old Manfred Mölgg. He met with our editor Andreas Vieider in Kitzbühel and explained to him the upswing in the Azzurri.

Manfred Mölgg, who probably missed his last chance at the Olympics when he was eliminated in the first round, came to the finish area with Dominik Paris on Saturday to watch the slalom decision. Anyone else would have stayed in the hotel room in this weather and let the Manders do their job out there without moral support.
