Dominik Paris continues: How did the deal come about?

Domme Paris isn't usually much of a social media communicator. His 191.000 Instagram followers forgive the affable Ultner native when he doesn't post promotional videos for skin creams, shampoos, and underwear brands. That's why a cryptic post caused such a stir when he announced news for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th. It was the day Dominik Paris announced his contract extension with Nordica until the end of the 2028 season.

There's no retirement after the 2026 Olympics. The career of the second-best downhill skier in World Cup history (he has 19 victories to his name, tied with Peter Müller) after Franz Klammer (25) continues. This is hardly surprising when you look at the 36-year-old's performance trajectory: He won two World Cup races in Kvitfjell in March 2025, and at the beginning of this season, he finished fourth (Super-G) and sixth (downhill) on the Beaver Creek course, which he dislikes. Nevertheless, Domme hasn't exactly given the impression recently that he's a World Cup slacker and wants to do something other than answer the same reporters' questions after races.

So, how did the contract extension with Nordica come about? Sport Race Director Manfred Mölgg explains: “Domme and I sat down one afternoon during ski training in early autumn. We at Nordica were determined to continue working with him, and he was very happy about it. He was still under contract until 2027, but we extended it by one year until the end of the 2028 season. This provided some peace of mind even before the season started, and it sends a very clear message: We at Nordica are still very proud to be able to count on Dominik Paris. At the same time, his appreciation for the company is immense, and we will continue to offer him top-notch support.”

All of this happened before the "Azzurri" speed team departed for their North American tour to Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek. Mölgg: "Racing View manager Jörg Ruedl, Dominik and I wanted to have everything sorted out early, before he got into his racing rhythm."

A whole team behind Domme With the contract extension until 2028, the team around Paris was also confirmed. Sepp Zanon, like Domme a native of Ultental, has been his serviceman for 15 years. Assunto Busolini, Stefano Dell'Amico, and Dennis Kaneider, a cousin of Manni Mölgg, are responsible for the development and adjustment of the ski boots. And then there's Michael Mölgg, Manni's younger brother. He oversees the development of the skis and maintains close contact with the company in Mittersill in the state of Salzburg, where the skis are manufactured. The boots, on the other hand, are produced in Giavera del Montello near Treviso.

Nordica is part of the Tecnica Group, which also includes the sporting goods manufacturers Tecnica, Blizzard, Lowa, Moon Boot, and Rollerblade. The stars are Paris and Lara Colturi, who skis for Blizzard. Andreja Slokar (currently injured), Marc Rochat, Franziska Gritsch, Tommaso Saccardi, and Matteo Canins also ski for Nordica or Blizzard. The skis are identical; only the logos differ.

They don't intend to compete with market leaders Head, Atomic, and, to a lesser extent, Rossignol, as their financial circumstances are completely different. Mölgg explains: "We want good athletes, but a relatively small number, whom we can closely monitor and support. It's a shame that a top talent like Lenz Hächler switched to Stöckli. And it's a shame that Josua Mettler (both from Switzerland) suffered torn cruciate ligaments in both knees last year in Bormio. But he'll be back."
