A curious fine for Mikaela Shiffrin

Mikaela Shiffrin's slalom victory in Copper Mountain enchanted everyone. But even this brilliant triumph didn't protect her from a curious fine.

Mikaela Shiffrin is making headlines in the skiing world. Whether with her outstanding sporting achievements (including victory in Copper Mountain) or the touching appearance at the comeback of her fiancé Aleksander Aamodt Kilde The American woman is always in the spotlight. Now she's even in the spotlight because of a bizarre sentence she received in Copper Mountain.


Shiffrin was fined by the International Ski Federation (FIS) after her sensational slalom victory (1,5 seconds ahead). The reason: The 30-year-old arrived late for the bib draw for the slalom. "The FIS has strict regulations here, and therefore Shiffrin is being penalized accordingly," the FIS stated. Skinews.ch.

The reason for Shiffrin's delay is particularly curious: she is said to have gotten lost in the World Cup venue during her home race (her home is only a 20-minute drive away).

Shiffrin will be able to handle it.

Shiffrin will be able to absorb the fine, however: she has to pay 999 Swiss francs for her lateness, which is around 1.070 euros. To put that in perspective: the best female skier of all time earned around 59.000 euros in prize money for her victory in Copper Mountain alone.
