A painful Marcel Hirscher rejection

Marcel Hirscher is an absolute superstar in the ski scene. Now, however, the Austrian has received a painful rejection.

Marcel Hirscher's World Cup comeback in autumn 2024 – five years after retiring – caused a sensation in the skiing world. The abrupt end to his season was equally remarkable: In December, Hirscher tore his cruciate ligament and had to end his season prematurely. Now, there's a comeback attempt, as the 36-year-old aims to compete in the World Cup again this year. However, this return has been delayed.

Two weeks ago, Hirscher canceled his participation in the World Cup opener in Sölden, and now it's clear: the 36-year-old will also miss the first slalom of the season in Levi on November 16. This has been reported by several Austrian media outlets.

In poor health

The reason: Hirscher struggled with a persistent illness in October that sidelined him for around three weeks. The eight-time overall World Cup winner has recently resumed training, but a race appearance is still too soon. The next opportunity will be on November 22nd, when the World Cup slalom takes place in Gurgl, Austria.
