One of the greats: Beat Feuz is calling it quits

As the 35-year-old from Bern announced on Wednesday in a Swiss Ski broadcast, he is calling it quits after the speed races in Kitzbühel. “After 16 years in the World Cup, I will end my active career as a racing driver on January 21st. I’m looking forward to being able to enjoy my favorite races in Wengen and Kitzbühel again,” explained Feuz.

The likeable Swiss has celebrated a total of 16 World Cup victories in his career, 13 of which were in the downhill. Feuz won the small crystal ball in the downhill four times, and he won gold at the Olympics in Beijing this year. At the home World Championships in St. Moritz in 2017, he was crowned world champion in the fastest discipline. “My feeling tells me that my physical limits have been reached.” Beat Feuz, “Pushing limits and taking risks have been my passion in ski racing for years. My feeling was often the key to success. But now my feeling tells me that the physical limits have been reached,” explained the Swiss, whose partner is the Austrian ex-racer Katrin Triendl. He also has two children with her, their daughter Luisa was born this year in January - shortly before the Hahnenkamm races.

Focus on family Now Feuz will soon have more time for her. “I am incredibly grateful that I was able to pursue my passion for so long and am now looking forward to more time with my family and am excited to see what new challenges will come into my life,” said a North Tyrolean by choice, who lives with Katrin, Luisa and the four-year-old Clea lives in Aldrans near Oberperfuss.

Given his success, it only seems logical that Feuz would end his career on the Streif. The speed king triumphed in the Gamsstadt once in 2022 and twice in 2021 - in the downhill, of course. Feuz has been a guarantee for podium places in recent years - on every descent. So far this season he hasn't made it to the podium. But he can definitely be expected to do this in Wengen and Kitzbühel – and also in Bormio before the end of the year. Next Monday the Swiss wants to say more about the end of his career at the World Cup in Bormio.
