“I’m sorry for Nicol”: That’s what Nadia Delago and Co say.

The Swiss Priska Nufer celebrated a surprising victory at her home World Cup in Crans-Montana (click here for the detailed race report) . Sofia Goggia was also happy about her 3rd place. She took another step in the fight for overall victory in the Downhill World Cup.

“It was a very close race, that's the beauty of this track. “I’m happy that I was able to keep the red jersey of the overall leader and am now 75 points ahead,” said Goggia. She doesn't know how far along she is in her recovery, right after the Olympic downhill run in Beijing, where Goggia sensationally won silver after her injury, she came to the World Cup in Switzerland and had around 9 days off. “I trained well, but the races are a different matter, I was still a bit worried that my leg wouldn't hold up, especially in the first corner here,” emphasized Goggia. She was of course satisfied with third place in Switzerland and was happy for Nufer, who was finally able to “play to her potential”.

Goggia therefore has the best chance of winning the crystal ball in the downhill rankings. As a reminder: Before the last Downhill World Cup on March 16th in Courchevel, France, Azzurra now has 482 points in its account, Suter has 407 points.

Federica Brignone, who landed in 7th place, was also satisfied. It was a “matter of hundredths of a second,” she emphasized. In an extremely close race, she was only 0,33 seconds behind the victorious Swiss and was only 10 hundredths short of the podium.

Nicol Delago from Val Gardena started strong and even achieved the best time in the first time measurement. After a few goals, however, she got too far on the outside ski after a hit, then missed a goal and was eliminated. “I’m really sorry for Nicol,” her sister Nadia said. This time, as so often, Nicol was very strong and relaxed and achieved good split times. Ultimately, however, she was unable to reap the fruits of her labor.

Nadia Delago herself was extremely satisfied with yesterday's 14th place, also because the training on this slope didn't go well at all. This Sunday, even though she was tired, she invested a lot “and persevered,” especially in the lower part, which is why she was disappointed that she didn’t finish better than 21st.
