It seems a new South Tyrolean skiing superstar is emerging. The fact is, Anna Trocker's rise is becoming increasingly meteoric. The 17-year-old from Völs (born in 2008) has made her World Cup debut in recent months, participated in the Olympic Games (and delivered a strong performance), and has now won her first major title: In Narvik, Norway, Trocker was crowned Junior World Champion in giant slalom.
It was an impressive start-to-finish victory for the young South Tyrolean. Trocker was already in the lead by seven-tenths of a second after the first run, and she extended her lead even further in the second run. The skiing prodigy finished a remarkable 1,37 seconds ahead of second-place Elisabeth Bocock (USA). Bronze medalist Tatum Bieler (Italy) was already 1,75 seconds behind the South Tyrolean.
The others are three years older
The significance of this victory becomes clear when you consider another detail: at 17, Trocker is by far the youngest athlete in the top 10; all the other skiers are three years older. This makes it all the more remarkable how the skier from Völs maintained her composure in the second run: while her competitors stumbled one after another on the battered slope, Trocker skied bravely, confidently, and with technically flawless precision to victory.Anna Trocker during her performance in Narvik.
The teenager is the fourth junior world champion from South Tyrol in giant slalom. Before her, Sabina Panzanini (Merano, 1991), Karen Putzer (Welschnofen, 1996 and 1997), and Denise Karbon (Kastelruth, 1999) had already achieved this feat. Incidentally, Karbon coaches Trocker as her dry-land training trainer, especially during the summer months. In winter, Denise's father, Arnold Karbon, is the private coach of the ski prodigy. The last South Tyrolean junior world champion was Max Perathoner, who won gold in the Super-G and the combined event in 2024.
For Anna Trocker, this is her second medal at the Junior World Championships in Narvik. She already secured the silver medal in the team combined event with Ludovica Righi. On Thursday, Victoria Klotz from Bolzano also competed in the giant slalom: After finishing 36th in the first run, she was eliminated in the second.
