The first race of the World Cup finals in Sun Valley (USA) is over: Lara Gut-Behrami delivered one of the best runs of her entire career, winning the challenging course by 1,29 seconds over Lindsey Vonn. For Vonn, it's her first World Cup podium finish in seven years! The 40-year-old American last stood on the podium in March 2018 in Aare.
At the finish, Vonn celebrated exuberantly with the home crowd. Meanwhile, Gut-Behrami overtook Federica Brignone in the Super-G ranking, winning by 35 points. The Italian had no chance against the Swiss's fabulous run on Sunday, finishing third, 1,33 seconds behind.

Brignone should be able to bear it, as she already has two globes in her bag and still has a chance in the giant slalom. At the finish, she congratulated Gut-Behrami fairly and bowed to her. What the 33-year-old conjured up in the snow in poor visibility conditions was incredible. Taking full risks, she demonstrated her technical prowess and won the Super-G globe for the sixth time. For Gut-Behrami, it was her 47th World Cup victory overall.
